Members of the School Budget Working Group attend school committee and budget sub-committee meetings to follow budget developments and other relevant school issues.

The School Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at 6:30pm in the School Committee Room on the 6th floor of the High School.  Each meeting begins with Public Comment.  Watch the School Committee Meetings On Demand via ACMi local cable.

Thompson School rebuild project

• Thompson was built in 1955 and most mechanical systems are failing
• Demolition will start December 2011 and the new school should open in fall of 2013
• As a part of this plan, we’ll have to re-district
• Thompson students are being accommodated at other elementary schools (K, 1st and 2nd grades at  Stratton, 3rd and 4th grades at Hardy, 5th grade at Bishop)
• Funding: The school is estimated to cost $20M to build.  The town will receive 50.42% reimbursement from the state, equaling $9.6M.  ~$6 million will come from the debt exclusion override approved in 2000. ~$3 million will come from the sale/lease of Parmenter and Crosby. There is an additional ~$2 million from smaller sources.
