School Committee
The schools are governed by the School Committee, a seven-member body whose unpaid members are elected for overlapping terms of three years each. The school committee establishes high-level school policies regarding fiscal management, personnel, the instructional program and other categories, hires a superintendent and reviews the annual school budget. Two or three positions are elected each April, following non-partisan town-wide campaigns.
The School Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month except during the summer.Meetings are open to the public and begin with citizen participation.Additionally, anyone can ask that a particular issue be placed on the agenda by contacting the School Committee chair.Informal summaries of school committee meetings are posted by the FYArlington School Budget Working Group.

School Administration
The Superintendent of the Schools is hired by the school committee to lead the school administration and implement the School Committee’s policies.The current superintendent of the schools is Dr. Kathleen Bodie.The Chief Financial Officer is Diane Johnson.
