About Us

FYArlington's FY12 Objectives

......

FYArlington is a gathering of concerned citizens in Arlington, Massachusetts that share information via our montly FYArlington Email Bulletin and our Discussion Group.  We also coordinate working groups that focus on specific areas of interest: school budget, town budget, state issues, community outreach

FYArlington is staffed entirely by volunteers. By dividing the work, we build up detailed knowledge and can more effectively explain the background and implications to the greater Arlington community. The working group leaders form the basis for a steering committee that coordinates to ensure information is shared via our discussion group and posted on our website in a timely way. The goal of the steering committee is to provide members with background information and specific actions that we can take.

FYArlington was born out of a group of concerned citizens that attempted to answer the question, “What can we do?”  Our goals will always be focused on taking that next step for a better Arlington.

Accomplishments:

  • Educated the community leading up to the June 2011 Override vote
  • Submitted an article for Town Meeting (passed April 2011) supporting the creation of Healthcare Reimbursement Accounts to help alleviate healthcare costs for our town employees
  • In February 2011, members successfully lobbied the Board of Selectmen, encouraging them to put an override on the spring ballot to let the voters decide whether or not to increase property taxes to pay for school and town services.
  • In the spring of 2010, members executed the successful Bridge the Gap campaign that raised $600,000 for Arlington public schools
